Some things from my travels…

Backpacks:

After searching high and low and several trips to REI, I resolved to buying Osprey’s Stratos 36 backpack. The 36 indicates that it’s 36 liters in volume (the Large is actually 38). This is a small-medium sized backpack, that is typically characterized for day trips to short over-night trips. From everything I’ve read, the smaller the better; you’ll be regretting having 65 liters of stuff strapped to your back, not to mention the hassle of traveling with it (e.g. buses, shops, restaurants, etc.)

From what I can gather, the Osprey Stratos 36 is the most versatile bag I could find. Plenty of space for a light packer and even some room for souvenirs!

Underwear:

Who knew this would be such an important topic!? But, as you can imagine, when traveling, you lack many of the common conveniences of everyday life (i.e. washer and dryer). From several articles and blogs I’ve read, Exofficio has stood out as the best undergarment. It’s anti-bacterial and quick drying characteristics make traveling much more comfortable. They come in a variety of cuts, including boxers, boxer-briefs, and your standard briefs. Personally, I’m more of a boxer-type kind of guy.

Towels:

Anti-bacterial, compact, and quick dry is the name of the game! When on the road, you still need to dry off after a quick shower, but most towels are too big and bulky. This microfiber towel is super absorbent and compact. It should prove useful on the trip!
